YouTube Tests New Product Tags for Shorts, Expands Music Options for Shorts Clips – Social Media Today

YouTube’s launching another monetization option for Shorts, with a new experiment that will see some creators able to tag products for purchase within their Shorts clips . As reported by The Financial Times , YouTube has begun a new pilot program with selected creators in the US, which will see product tags displayed within Shorts, with viewers in the US, India, Brazil, Canada and Australia able to see the tags and shop directly in the app. As per FT : “ [YouTube’s] currently piloting its ‘affiliate marketing’ scheme – paying commission to creators that sell products – with a select number of US-based creators. YouTube, the merchant, and the creator all take an undisclosed cut of the sale.” That could provide a key lifeline for Shorts creators, and another key element in YouTube’s favor, as the battle for creative talent heats up in the space. The challenge with short-form video is that you can’t just insert pre and mid-roll ads, like you would on longer content, which makes direc...

Elon Musk Claims He’ll Pay Twitter Video Creators 10% More Than YouTube – Forbes

WASHINGTON, DC – MARCH 09: Elon Musk, founder and chief engineer of SpaceX speaks at the 2020 … [+] Satellite Conference and Exhibition March 9, 2020 in Washington, DC. Musk answered a range of questions relating to SpaceX projects during his appearance at the conference. (Photo by Win McNamee/Getty Images) Getty Images Elon Musk has roughly ten zillion ideas about how to generate revenue from Twitter, the most public of which, of course, has been his new $8 Twitter Blue auto-verification system that wreaked so much havoc in its first few days its been “paused” already. But there is one idea that actually could make sense, depending on how much you trust Musk, and the idea that Twitter will even be left standing when all this is done. The concept is that Twitter has never really generated anything approaching a creator economy. It does not pay its power users like YouTube and Twitch, many of whom have made content creation on those platforms a full-time living. And even if M...

Elon Musk says Twitter’s monetization model can beat YouTube’s and longer posts and videos will be allowed – Fortune

Elon Musk plans to let Twitter users make more money off all forms of content—possibly offering a better deal than YouTube’s monetization model—and to give users the ability to create longer posts and videos. Twitter’s new owner hinted at the new features in tweets this weekend. When influencer Quinn Nelson tweeted that YouTube “gives creators 55% of ad revenue,” Musk replied , “We can beat that.”  Earlier, a content creator said he’d consider posting his full-length videos to Twitter given the right incentives to do so. “If twitter could handle the full length feature videos that I produce and can offer a similar monetization system like YouTube does, I would consider uploading my full videos here too for sure,” wrote user @Erdayastronaut, whose Twitter profile reads: “Professional rocket orientation specialist, explainer of flamey stuff and rocket chaser.” Musk replied, “We can do 42 min chunks at 1080 resolution now for new Blue, so you could break up a longer video. YouTube’s automated copyright tool riles up musicians – Marketplace

When Rob Jones uploaded a video to YouTube in which he plays a few Nirvana riffs on a guitar, his video was flagged for violating the site’s copyright rules. “Literally playing riffs, yeah,” Jones said. “I could play 10 seconds. I could play 30 seconds. Not even with any background music, just a guitar on its own.” Jones runs a YouTube channel called the Guitar Manifesto, where he reviews and builds guitars — and often demos famous riffs. He’s one of many guitar channel owners who say that in recent years, YouTube, a Google property, has flagged a slew of their videos on behalf of major labels. Even though they’re playing the riffs themselves. This is possible because of Content ID, a powerful automated tool created by Google that checks uploaded videos for copyrighted material. Content ID creates digital “fingerprints” for copyright owners’ works, then scans the platform to determine when content in an uploaded video matches. When Content ID flags an infringing video, copyright ho...

How Much Money YouTubers Earn Per 1,000 Views: RPM – Business Insider

YouTube reported a decrease in ad revenue in Q3 2022 for the first time since 2019. The slowdown does not seem to have affected creators who make money from ads on their videos. 8 creators shared how much money they made per 1,000 YouTube views with Insider. YouTube recently reported a slowdown in advertising revenue in Q3, bringing in $7.07 billion compared to the $7.2 billion it earned in 2021.  This is the first time YouTube’s ad revenue has shrank since 2019, when its parent company, Alphabet, began sharing the platform’s revenue separately from Google.  However, when it comes to revenue from advertisements, for the creators Insider spoke with it seems that things have largely gone unchanged — or, in some cases, improved. “It’s grown to this massive business that is very lucrative, and I’m very thankful for all of it,” Joshua Mayo said, adding that his RPM rate — revenue per mille, or how much he earns per 1,000 video views — grew from around $6 in October 2021 ...

Fewer Rightsholders Use YouTube Content ID, But They Flag More Content – TorrentFreak

Home > Anti-Piracy > DMCA > YouTube’s latest Transparency Report shows that fewer copyright holders used the Content ID system to protect their works. Despite the modest decline, more content was flagged overall, with over 750 million claims during the first half of 2022. Traditional DMCA takedown notices are on the rise as well, with an increase of more than 30% year-over-year. Last year, YouTube released its first-ever copyright transparency report. The streaming platform revealed that the vast majority of all claimed infringements were reported through the Content ID system. This pattern remained intact in the first half of 2022. YouTube’s latest transparency report reveals that 99 percent of all unique claims were made through the automated system, despite the fact that only a tiny fraction of the rightsholders have access to it. 757 Million Claims Hundreds of thousands of entities sent copyright claims to YouTube over the reporting period. Of these, just 4,7...

YouTube will soon roll out a ‘Go Live Together’ co-streaming feature to select creators – TechCrunch

YouTube is gearing up to roll out a new feature that will allow select creators to invite a guest to go live with them, the company announced on its Creator Insider channel and in a blog post . At launch, creators will only be able to co-stream via a phone, as the feature won’t be available on the desktop version of YouTube. The new feature will initially only be available to a select group of creators, but YouTube plans to expand co-streaming to more creators in the future. Creators can schedule a livestream with a guest from their computer and then go live from a mobile phone. Or, they can go live immediately from their mobile phone. Although you can rotate guests on your livestream, you can only have one guest appear at a time. Once you invite a guest, your stream feed will show above your guest’s. In the next few weeks, some creators will be able to select the new “Go Live Together” button on their accounts. Creators need to start by entering their stream details, including the...

La Batalla Cultural: Hate and Election Lies Are Poisoning Spanish-Language YouTube – Rolling Stone

Agustín Laje winces in disgust as he tells his listeners, in graphic detail, about a controversial medical procedure young people are getting in America. There’s just one problem: He’s making a lot of it up. “Fourteen-year-olds who can’t, for example, even have a beer in the United States,” Laje says, are being allowed to “construct artificial penisis made for themselves” by “removing the girl’s skin” and “removing the muscle” on her arm. “You can see the bone, it’s very unpleasant to look at.” Laje, an Argentinian political commentator with over 1.5 million YouTube subscribers, is describing, in Spanish, an imagined version of radial forearm phalloplasty , a form of gender transition surgery that involves taking a skin graft (not stripping the arm of muscle to the bone) to construct a penis. The surgery is uncommon even among transgender patients, and is generally not recommended for and rarely performed on minors — much less on those who aren’t even in high school yet .  La...
