How to Make Money on YouTube: A Beginner’s Guide – Qrius

YouTube is great for monetizing your content because it offers several avenues for you to do so – allowing you to get the most value for your time and effort.

If done right, there’s no better platform than YouTube to start making money from your content. Most entrepreneurs find that working for themselves requires a significant amount of start-up capital. To get started on YouTube, all you need is an account, a youtube thumbnail creator, and a smartphone.

YouTube boasts more than 122 million active users and 1 billion hours of video watched daily. It is arguably the biggest search platform next to Google.

So, whether you’re creating how-to videos to educate your community or you want to promote your small business, YouTube has everything you need to engage viewers and connect with your audience. Because YouTube has so many active users, finding a way to draw a portion of them to your content will leave you in a great position to make money.

There are three main ways to earn money from YouTube. You can use Adsense, sign up for YouTube’s Partner Program, and create Sponsored Content.  

Create an Adsense Account

You must set up an Adsense account to start monetizing your YouTube content. Adsense is Google’s program that allows you to earn money by matching your content and audience with the right ads.

The ads Google displays on your videos are bought, paid for, and created by the advertisers. Once a certain number of visitors are directed to the advertisement and click on it, you earn a commission that’s deposited into your Adsense account. Because all your Adsense payments will go through your Adsense account, setting it up for your YouTube channel is essential.  

Setting Up Your Adsense Account

Because you don’t need to become a YouTube Partner to sign up for Adsense, you can implement it on multiple channels and begin making money immediately.

To set Adsense up, go to Adsense’s home page and click ‘Get started.’ You’ll need to input your YouTube channel’s URL and email address on the sign-up form. You can also opt-in to customized performance suggestions. Once Adsense has detected your channel’s URL, follow the on-screen prompts and accept Adsense’s terms and conditions.

Once you’ve set up your Adsense account, you’re ready to start monetizing your YouTube video content.

Join the YouTube Partner Program

Although it’s possible to make money by only setting up an Adsense account, joining the YouTube Partner Program makes monetizing your content easier. YouTube’s Partner Program also offers special features – such as the Copyright Match Tool, Creator Support, and more monetization options.

The YouTube Partner Program doesn’t just show ads on your content; it also offers alternative revenue streams like Super Chat, YouTube Premium subscription fees, and links to your products and merchandise (Merchandise Shelf).

When you become a member of the YouTube Partner Program, you will have access to the Analytics dashboard, where you can view your revenue earned over the last month. To become a YouTube Partner, you need to meet several conditions.

Partner Program Requirements

These conditions to join the Partner Program include compliance with YouTube’s monetization policies, at least 1,000 subscribers to your channel, have an Adsense account, and more than 4,000 valid public watch hours over a 12-hour period. You must reside in a country where the Partner Program is available.  

When you meet these conditions, YouTube will review your channel to ensure it fulfills the monetization policies.

Something else to bear in mind is that to qualify for the Partner Program’s various revenue channels, you may need to meet their specific requirements. One condition that applies to all revenue channels is that you must be 18 years old.

Partner with a Sponsor

Another way to earn money on YouTube is to work directly with sponsors. Partnering directly with a sponsor means that the sponsor will pay you without using YouTube as a middleman. Influencers and YouTubers make most of their money from sponsored content.

You’ll need to follow a few steps to incorporate partnering with a sponsor into your social media marketing strategy.

Steps for Partnering with a Sponsor

First, you’ll need to develop a partnership package. Begin by outlining the benefits for your sponsors when they partner with you. Of course, the specifics of your partnership package will depend on the kind of content you create and the length and position of the sponsored ads in your videos.

To find potential brand partners, search for companies offering products or services that are relevant to your content. For instance, if you run a beauty vlog, look for cosmetic brands to sponsor you.

Lastly, you should ensure you are transparent about any sponsored ads in your videos and comply with Google and YouTube’s ad policies.
