Crossing Guards Are An Effective, Low Tech Solution To Traffic Problems Near Schools – Jamestown Post Journal

<!–

Sidewalk plowing is the collaboration between the Jamestown Public Schools and city of Jamestown that is getting the most attention.

But after a year in which traffic issues around some city schools — notably Persell Middle School and Love Elementary School — a memorandum of understanding between the city and school district to improve the crossing guard program shouldn’t get lost in the shuffle.

Parents know full well how important a good crossing guard can be during drop-off and pick-up times. The program for now is to make sure there is a crossing guard at each of the city’s elementary schools. That’s a good start, but in our opinion having a crossing guard or two outside Persell Middle School makes a lot of sense too, given the school’s location at the intersection of two busy streets. Even middle schoolers who think they’re all grown up would benefit from an adult’s help on Hazeltine Avenue and Baker Street.

There will be much talk over the city’s Vision Zero plan over the next several months, but in our opinion one way to fix the traffic crunch around schools is as simple as having good crossing guards outside city schools and working traffic lights that stop traffic at the push of a button.

This is a good collaboration between the city and school district — and the type of cooperation taxpayers should expect to see long into the future.

Despite this, several consumers admit to being tired of advertisements across social media. 64% say that they’re likely to stop
